McKenna Joins VCA as Chief Operating Officer
Longtime communications executive to lead broadband team
PAHRUMP, Nev. (July 14, 2017) – Kathryn G. McKenna, an experienced communications executive in the West and Midwest for the past 25 years, has been named Chief Operating Officer for Valley Communications Association, Inc.
McKenna, who was Assistant General Manager at Gila River Telecommunications, Inc., in Phoenix, joined VCA in late June.
“VCA has become a key component of Valley Electric Association, and McKenna is uniquely qualified to lead our broadband and communications efforts moving forward,” said VEA CEO Thomas H. Husted. “The incredible demand for VCA services since 2016 only proves how essential high-speed broadband is to our members. Kathie’s experience and skills will be instrumental in serving the rural communities within our service territory and beyond. We are fortunate to have her.”
At Gila River Telecommunications, McKenna was responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier, providing voice and broadband to residential and business customers for GRTI.
As Chief Operating Officer at VCA, McKenna will be second in command of Valley Communications, where she will be responsible for overseeing the ongoing business operations of VCA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Valley Electric Association, Inc. McKenna will report to the CEO.
Before joining GRTI, McKenna served from 2011-16 as General Manager, Rural Division/EVP-Director Broadcast Operations for Landover Wireless in Sioux Falls, S.D. From 2009-11 She was Senior Vice President of Software Practices at CHR Solutions, Inc., of Sioux Falls. From 1990 through 2009 McKenna held executive positions at communications companies in Hawaii and the Missouri communities of Macon, Sedalia and Columbia.
McKenna also owned her own consulting firm Zentgraf Consulting, which worked with wireless and telecommunications companies to develop product offerings and software solutions.
McKenna is a founding member and past board member of the Rural Telecommunications Group.
A committed volunteer, McKenna has held board positions at the Salvation Army, HorsePower, Community Radio Group Broadcasting, Saint Catherine School in Kapa’a, Hi., Sacred Heart School in Sedalia, Mo., and ParrotHeads of the Prairie in Sioux Falls.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., McKenna received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from William Woods University at Fulton, Mo.
